Well, a 1978 Pinto should be okay. It was only the earlier models that came standard with exploding gas tanks.
Actually, a 73 Pinto was my first car. That was one tough vehicle. I paid $75 for it, with a 4 speed and no passenger seat. With the front wheel drive, it was a pretty good off road vehicle.

JoJo is correct. I coulda swore it was front wheel drive. But yes, it was a pretty good off road vehicle. It was so light that if you got it stuck or high centered, it wasn't hard to break loose with manual labor. It also handled really well on ice. Don't get me wrong, it was a piece of shit and used as much oil as gas but it was fun.
